Argo Graphene advances plans for a commercial graphene refinery near Chicago

Argo Graphene Solutions has provided an update on its plan to build a commercial-scale graphene refinery in the Chicago, Illinois area. The company says it is in the final stages of securing a facility to house its STREAM production operations. A wholly owned Nevada subsidiary received authority to transact business in Illinois, effective October 15, and is changing its name. Argo’s production is based on the STREAM technology it licenses from Grapherry, with a contractual path to full ownership.

The initial phase targets about 10 metric tons of graphene per quarter, with plans to expand to about 90 metric tons per quarter. Argo also plans to make graphene oxide, initially 30 metric tons per quarter of dispersion at 20% concentration. The facility is meant to combine production with material testing, application development and customer qualification, for markets including construction, energy storage, composites, coatings and lubricants. Argo says it will use its recently closed C$1.47 million (about US$1.05 million) financing to advance facility development, scale-up and qualification programs.
