HEG Advanced Materials approves a 500-tonne graphene plant as part of a battery materials expansion

HEG Advanced Materials’ board has approved a graphene plant with a capacity of 500 tonnes, to be built in two phases by its wholly owned subsidiary, HEG Graphene Materials Limited. The project carries a capital cost of about ₹500 crore (about US$53 million), and the company is targeting commercial operations in September 2028. The announcement did not give the plant’s location, the type of graphene to be produced or the split between phases.

The approval came as part of a package of four projects with a combined cost of about ₹4,931 crore (about US$519 million), approved on November 3, 2026. The others are a 24,000-tonne expansion of the company’s battery anode plant, taking planned anode capacity to 44,000 tonnes, an 80,000-unit-per-year crucible plant for backward integration, and the first 20,000-tonne anode phase, whose cost was revised to about ₹2,350 crore (about US$247 million).
